Description
Thymosin Alpha-1 is the N-terminal segment of a larger protein, prothymosin alpha: residues 2-29 in UniProt entry P06454, with the initiator methionine removed and an acetyl group on the first serine. Its sequence was first determined in 1977 from a calf-thymus extract known as thymosin fraction 5. In one-letter code it reads Ac-SDAAVDTSSEITTKDLKEKKEVVEEAEN-OH.
The peptide is strongly acidic: nine of its 28 residues are aspartic acid (3) or glutamic acid (6), against four lysines and no arginine or histidine. Cysteine, methionine and all three aromatic amino acids (tryptophan, tyrosine, phenylalanine) are absent, so its UV absorbance at 280 nm is close to zero. Calculated from its formula, the monoisotopic mass is 3106.50 Da.
Thymosin Alpha-1 comes in one size, a 10mg vial. For research use only. Not for use in humans or animals.
An independent third-party lab tests every batch of Thymosin Alpha-1, and the lab report (COA) is on our COAs page.
